December 7, 2023
Children are invited to attend Trinity Parish’s Sunday School program beginning at 9:45am. The Sunday School classroom is on the lower level in Room 1, directly across from the stairs. Please proceed down a side aisle to the front of the sanctuary, go through the door, follow the hallway to the right, and descend the stairs. We meet in Room 1, which is directly across from the bottom of the stairs. If you would prefer someone to show you, please ask an usher.
This week's Sunday School teachers will be Martha Hadeler and Jane Galli. This week’s lesson is The Holy Family: “This is the Christ child in the manger. He is holding out His arms to give you a hug. Now He can reach out and give the whole world a hug. He is not just back then, in this place or that place. He is everywhere, and in every time.” I wonder how you feel the Christ child reaching out to you? I wonder what you love about your family? I wonder how the Holy Family inspires you?
Longtime parishioner Eleanor M. King, 101, of Needham, MA, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 4, 2023, surrounded by the love of her family. The funeral will be conducted by Eaton Funeral Home, 1351 Highland Ave in Needham, MA. The funeral service will take place on Saturday, December 16 at Trinity Episcopal Church, 11 Homer Street, Newton Centre, MA. The visitation will be at the church from 10:00-11:00 a.m. The funeral service will be at 11:00 followed by a reception. For more about her extraordinary life click here.
This Sunday, in order to help prepare some of our parents for the Baptism of their child in January, we continue with the four-week series of scripture reflection on passages that were used to prepare catechumens for Baptism in the early Church. We will reflect on the passage and then ask, "What might we do to best support N. in their life in Christ?" (See BCP, p 303.)
December 10: John 11:1-45
Sessions will close with prayer for the parents and their child.
Volunteers are needed to ready the church for Trinity’s Christmas Eve service. Next Sunday we will especially need help carrying up and positioning candelabras and wreaths around the sanctuary. If you are able to assist the Altar Guild in this important yearly function, please speak to Donna English.
If you would like to make a memorial contribution toward the purchase of Trinity’s Christmas poinsettias, please pick up a Christmas memorial envelope from the Narthex or Dunbar Room. For names to be included in the Christmas Eve order of service, envelopes must be received in the parish office by Tuesday, December 19.
We invite you to take part in a new initiative that we are establishing at Trinity. Using the online service Lotsa Helping Hands, we are organizing a group of volunteers who are willing to help fellow parishioners based on needs that arise. Go here for more information.
The parish vestry voted in 2022 to go "mask friendly"; that is, unless otherwise indicated, masks are optional at Trinity Parish. Please note that, pending further guidance from the Diocese and local infection rates, the church may in future return to requiring face coverings for in-person gatherings.
Located at 11 Homer Street in Newton Centre on the lower level of Trinity Church, the Pantry is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and a member of the Greater Boston Food Bank. It is open most Tuesdays from 2:30–5:30pm and the third Saturday of each month from 11:30am–2pm.
New households are asked to fill out the Online Pantry Registration Form or print and fill out this paper form.
