Word for the Week
Angelic in Temper and Strong
February 9, 2025
February 9, 2025
Bless ye the Lord, you angels of his, you mighty ones who do his bidding, and hearken to the voice of his word.
(Ps. 103:20)
Rabbi Isaac Nappaḥa said: “This refers to those who keep the seventh year. Why is such a man called ‘mighty in strength’? If a man is content without complaint to see his carefully tended field made free to all and sundry, and his trees the property of all who pass by, and his fence broken down and his fruit consumed, and in spite of all this he suppresses his feelings, and does not say a word, because it is the seventh year of release, such a man is angelic in temper and strong, for it is said (Aboth iv, i), ‘Who is mighty? He who subdues his evil inclination.’”
